July 26th, we celebrate the 26th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
As you know, this annual commemoration is very important to me, as I was the chief sponsor of the bill and led the Senate effort to passage in 1990.
In the past 26 years, America has taken many steps forward in transforming the experiences of people with disabilities. While the ADA's enactment sent a message that we would no longer put up with second-class citizenship for Americans with disabilities, there continues to be room for growth. While we plan and work for a future of many more achievements, it is important to celebrate our past successes. As you celebrate the 26th anniversary of the passage of the ADA, please consider sharing this video with your organization's staff, supporters, and friends. In it, I share my pride for the work initiated by the Americans with Disabilities Act that you and your organization have helped sustain.
At the Harkin Institute for Public Policy & Citizen Engagement, we celebrate the ADA every day, as we facilitate nonpartisan policy research along with active civic engagement dedicated to the issues that people with disabilities face. How are you celebrating this anniversary and honoring the spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act? Join the conversation with the hashtag #ADA26.
Have a great celebration!

The International Dyslexia Association (IDA) is dedicated to the study and treatment of dyslexia.
The Florida IDA (FL IDA) strives to be a leader in educating and empowering the people of Florida with knowledge of dyslexia, appropriate assessment of dyslexia, and effective, evidence-based interventions.
The Florida Branch of the International Dyslexia Association (FL IDA) was formed in 1991 with the commitment to increase public awareness about dyslexia and to act as a resource for individuals with dyslexia, their families, and the professionals who serve them.
It is essential that early identification, assessment, and treatment of individuals with language-based learning differences be provided. It is vital that older students and adults with dyslexia also be provided appropriate resources.
The IDA and FL IDA believe that a peer-reviewed, research-validated, multi-sensory, structured, sequential, systematic, cumulative, direct, explicit language approach is the criteria by which the best approaches currently available are defined; however, the IDA and the FL IDA do not endorse specific professionals, speakers, materials, or instructional programs.
FL IDA provides education and information through community outreach activities, regional resource networks, annual conferences in Florida, newsletters, and social media. Membership in the FL IDA is included in the cost of IDA membership.
IDA is the leading resource for individuals with dyslexia, their families, teachers, and educational professionals around the world. Since we are a non-profit organization dedicated to the study and treatment of dyslexia, we encourage you to join our mission and become a member. You will receive regular information about managing dyslexia, access to an international network of professionals in the field, discounts on conferences fees and publications from our Online Store, quarterly and biannual publications, and affiliation with your Local Branches opening a gateway to a learning community of other individuals sharing our mission. Disclaimer The International Dyslexia Association, IDA, doesn't recommend or endorse any individual, business, school or program.
